Jun 1.Weather better in Ellis,Ks.

Still in Ellis Ks.. Now it's June 1st. The weather has been stable and somewhat pleasant for over 24 hours. A few hundred miles East of us they're still getting pounded with heavy storms and tornados. I hope it stays East of us although we feel for the folks there, especially near Oklahoma City. Did you see the damage done to the weather channel storm chasers. Their car got into a tornado and flew and rolled several times. The car, a Yukon, was flattened and airborn and destroyed but the 3 guys only got banged up and walked away.
Last Wednesday we toured the Walter Chrysler Home Museum and the Railroad Museum here in town.  Ellis, Ks was a main Railroad Hub at the turn of the century. It was neat to see how people survived and prospered back then. The town is still rather quaint with its old world charm, angle parking and brick streets. It has a lot of mom & pop shops and is proud of it's heritage. Lots of little signs all over downtown tracking the history of itself. Another thing we noticed is the teens smiling and walking and bicycling without a cell phone in hand. Weird!! But nice. Obviously the big box stores are quite a few miles away and haven't ruined this town.
The railroad museum is well laid out and very interesting and they have  a little train that runs around town on a 2 mile track. We hopped a ride the next day with a carryout pizza in hand because it goes thru the woods and past the RV Park.
Yesterday was another tour day. Took in Hays Ks. Fort. Nice do it yourself walking tour. The old original buildings are made of limestone blocks and they have a lot of old names scratched into them. Almost like antique graffiti !

From there we drove into Hays proper and went to the Sternberg Natural History Museum. It's 3 stories tall and quite large. The layout was done well. From dinosaurs to fossils to area history.

They also had one of the largest live rattler snake displays we've ever seen. I'm gonna guess they had 50 different rattler snakes. After walking for miles we headed back to the park about 3PM.
Today, Saturday, is a take a break day. Planning on movin' on down the road on Monday. Heading to Colorado.
REMEMBER, LIVE YOUR DREAMS AS TIME GOES BY QUICKLY! Charlie&Heather.

    Howdy Charlie,
So glad the wind held of a little bit so y'all could get out and around..
Don't sit still tooo long cause it'll be blowin' again in a minute or two...
I slowed my Minneapolis-Moline tractor down, up in Kansas, once to make a turn-row and that wind picked up the 18' disc and turned it for me !!! Also, if y'all see a black cloud it's already tooo late to run !!!!
I watch those idjits 'chase' those twisters and think 'Y'all are tooo dumb to be stupid !!!' Twisters are called twisters because they TWIST EVERY WHICH WAY, which is why they miss some houses and hit the one next door...
