Got on the road at 1000. Headin' to Evergreen, Colorado to see a friend. West I-70 to Denver, the mile high city, then SW to Evergreen. Beautiful road and driving conditions. No wind and 72F and sunny. Very little traffic too.
The approach West into Denver is mindboggling! We thought it was foggy ahead of us but it was cloud formations at the top of the mountains. No picture will ever do it justice.
The closer we got to Denver the more picturesque it became. Of course we were getting into "CITY TRAFFIC" so sightseeing became secondary.
Of course, we blew right by our 470 exit, that wasn't too bad, now we came upon an incline that was a " I think I can, I think I can" endeavor. WOW, that'll test your rig!!! 2 exits up we got off I-70 to regroup and RECALCULATE as a GPS would say. Okay, that's simple. Make a u-turn and go back East to the right exit. Right?? OHHH NOOO, u turn made and the engine quits...HHMMM! Near as I can figure the fuel pump quit. Must not have liked that incline.
Good Sam road service to the rescue! Of course we had to sit on the road, overlooking mountain views and lots of birds. Many mountain bikers and a road crew stopped to ask if we were okay. Mighty nice folks here in Colorado! Finally we got towed a few miles to Stevinsons Chevy Dealership. in Denver, for repairs.(1400hrs) Luckily just across the street is a motel called, of course, Mountain View. After we checked into the dealership we grabbed a few things and the service manager, Joe, drove us there. He's guessing it'll be done about noon tomorrow. I just can't wait to see what this'll cost.
I guess if ya gotta have a breakdown it may as well be near civilization! We'd just got done driving 100 miles of nothing, Things could be worse. Thanx St. Christopher, my travel Saint!
We were impressed with the size of the farms as we drove today. We saw some pronghorned deer in the fields, some monsterous wheat fields and lotsa cattle. The terrain got real wavy approaching Denver and I already said the mountains suddenly appeared. Luckily it was sunny and blue skies. Hope the pictures look as pretty.
There's a slew of restaurants around the motel so I bet we'll be taking a walk to explore 'em. Did you know motel rooms are $80 to $150 a night? Ours is $80. That's 4 or 5 nights of camping!
We did manage to pack up some neccessities, computers and of course our beer. Made sure we didn't miss Happy Hour.
So here we are "camped" at a motel. I wonder if that qualifies as Camp #35 ??
Things could be worse so I'm not whining!
